Building connections is an important part of being in the music industry it is very much about who you know. Do whatever you can to get in touch with the right people but remember to stay professional people in the music industry can be very busy, bear this in mind and don’t take it to heart if it takes them a while to respond or even if you get no response at all. Attend events with like-minded individuals, and always be on the lookout for anything that is in tune with your interests and seems like a gateway to further opportunities. Be Confident.
To be in the music industry you need to be able to speak your mind. You want to come across confident not cocky, you want to be polite and articulate. Confidence is not only in the way that you speak but your body language too; your posture can say a lot about you don’t slouch or hold your head down or you risk seeming unbothered. Hold your head high and put your shoulders back (it might make you feel better too). Believe in yourself; if you believe that you can do something alongside some determination and tenacity you can go a long way.
Develop your Skills.
Securing a place in the music industry can be quite competitive. Develop skills that may make you stand out over others. IT skills can give you an edge, take some time to learn how to use different software. There are many tools out there to help you build skills, YouTube is one of them. Give yourself an arsenal of skills; anything that you believe could be useful within your job aim to get good at it. Even things such as speaking another language not only show your intelligence but also your drive to better yourself. Skills have aspects that can be transferred to many different situations so even if there’s something that may not be exactly your forte it may still come in handy.
Be Desirable.
Create an image of yourself that makes employers want you. Social Media is a powerful thing use it to your advantage and make your professional profiles portray yourself in the best light possible. Showcase all the relevant work that you do and anything that may be appealing to an employer. Build an industry-facing portfolio and CV kit them out to be professional and appealing while also being succinct. First impressions are very important, you have the chance to decide how you want to be seen. Make it count.
